Bernadette Fay was a copy editor at the Chronicle with Alicia. Along with another friend, she took Alicia to the ER at UCSF Parnassas early morning April 2.

An excerpt from the article:

On the night she was admitted to the ER, a doctor told Alicia Parlette what a brave lady she was. She let the comment go by, but the second time he said it, she told him: “Well, it’s not like I have a choice.”

Several people have expressed interest in reading Alicia’s book, comprised of the first 7 chapters of her Chronicle series. We are working on adding her SFGate blog posts as well as other unpublished writings for a reprinting; stay tuned for more details.

I was informed today that the Chronicle has a limited supply of “Alicia’s Story,” a paperback compilation of the first installment of the series. All proceeds after tax and shipping will go to the Alicia Parlette Fund for Aspiring Journalists. To order a copy, send a check for $15 to “Alicia’s Story,” San Francisco Chronicle, 901 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94103.

Written by Penni Gladstone, the San Francisco Chronicle photographer whose pictures of Alicia were part of Alicia’s Story.

Wait Alicia, don’t go, we still have to get another gelato to eat. When we were in Italy we would indulge every day sometimes twice a day. While in Florence I followed her as she and her friends danced in the street, and danced down a flight of church steps.

I stumbled across this blog post today. I don’t know who writes the Garden Lust blog, but it’s cute.

The author wrote a sweet, brief note about Alicia and used one of the best pictures of Ms. Parlette I’ve ever seen. I think Alicia had this up on a social network somewhere…anyway, here it is:

Another piece about Alicia was published by the student paper of the University of Nevada at Reno, The Nevada Sagebrush.

It’s a quick article and includes some quotes from Professor Peter Mitchell, who visited her in the hospital several weeks ago. You may read it here: http://nevadasagebrush.com/blog/2010/04/20/graduate-author-nears-end-of-battle-with-cancer/.
